Fun progress!

I was very excited to see the house this evening. The stairs are looking amazing. Obviously we don't have our new flooring or railing in yet but, we can finally see what the space is going to look like!

One of the main reasons we decided we wanted to bring down that wall was to help with the front entry, once you are in the door you are right there at the stairs. I was starting to stress about the cost, but I'm really happy with how it's looking and we are achieving what we wanted. Which is good, because the first bill came in the mail today...sad face.

Second bathroom lost it's vanity, flooring and shower tiles!

Let's take a moment to appreciate these curtains. I almost took them down today... cause the're obviously horrible, but I realized that they were actually doing a pretty decent job keeping the heat out of the room. So I let them stay for a while, but I am being passive aggressive with them and may have been unnecessarily rough with them when I shut them.

2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Sorry it's been awhile since the last update, thing have been moving, but slowly. 2nd Bathroom: Counter tops, plumbing, and hardware! New shower backer, all ready to be tiled... as soon as the tile comes in. It was supposed to be in last week (sad face). The shower had drywall behind it before, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable with hardibacker wet area cement board. So it feel like things are really moving along... and then you realize you have a toilet in your hall. This spawned an amazing quote from my good friend, SM: Life Lesson #679 courtesy of Cannon Renovation: "Sometimes we just have to appreciate the positive and hope our crap ends up where it should..." Finally Some Tile!

Terri and Ian are both at summer camp for the Boys Choir this week, so she has left me in charge of the blog. I'm not as cute or witty as Terri, but I'll do my best to fill her tiny open-toed shoes. We finally had some good progress today after a string of frustrating days with little-to-no activity. The tile for the bathrooms arrived and they nearly finished the boys' bathroom in a single day. I love the niche! They were supposed to add the same detail trim to the boys shower that is going in the master shower though. Another call to the contractor.... Last week they installed the shower pan in the master bath and the finished off the drain plumbing. Today they got the Hardibacker board mostly installed and it's nearly ready for tile. Master shower all framed out Plumbing finished and shower pan/liner added Hardibacker board installed and we get a niche too! They laid some sort of sand mater...

Day 13

Closets are getting their update. Out with the old sliding mirror doors. We knew that the master closets needed some updating, but the solution wasn't straightforward. So our contractor suggested we make the entry smaller and add two normal doors to pull the closets into this century. The his and hers closets are across the hall from each other and huge doors would hit, if we wanted to be in our closets at the same time. Solution: Smaller doors and offset entrances. The funny thing the opening is actually bigger now, even though they are framing it for doors to fit. Why does my closet already have more stuff in it? Former shower space, now has the framing for cabinets. Master Shower plumbing, is coming along. Squee! Master vanity! 2nd Bath has plumbing exposed and new hardware ready to be installed. Good thing our drywall is getting replaced, that looks a little water damaged! 2nd Bath has cabinets too!
