2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Sorry it's been awhile since the last update, thing have been moving, but slowly.

2nd Bathroom:
Counter tops, plumbing, and hardware!
New shower backer, all ready to be tiled... as soon as the tile comes in. It was supposed to be in last week (sad face).

The shower had drywall behind it before, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable with hardibacker wet area cement board.
So it feel like things are really moving along... and then you realize you have a toilet in your hall.
This spawned an amazing quote from my good friend, SM: Life Lesson #679 courtesy of Cannon Renovation:
"Sometimes we just have to appreciate the positive and hope our crap ends up where it should..."

Master Bath:

we've got some materials in: master shower flooring
Shower detailing
I love, love, love our silver travertine counter tops! We got to go pick out our slab and I'm so glad we were picky, it looks great with the cabinets.

Plumbing and hardware are in.

Yeah, so maybe our faucets are LED.

Master Vanity with hardware. Looking Good.

Master shower got a bench!
Things look good... then you realize there is bathtub in your bedroom.
 Master Closet Doors:
Bye bye sliding mirror doors, hello normal looking doors.

They did a great job finishing the doors.

Fun detail, this outlet was powering the whirlpool tub. Since they can't have a power outlet in the shower, what with the possibility of electrocution. They just flipped around and now we have an outlet in one of the closets.
This was an  access port to the attic, it needed a new door. The previous home owner finished this out for us and it has a cool magnetic closure.

  1. Thank you for the picture of the hardibacker wet area cement board. Now I know what the latest is!

  2. I re-read this post because there isn't a new one. LED lighting in the faucet. Ingenious. Are you installing LED lighting anywhere else in the house? I recently saw LED lights along a floor in a kitchen, under the cabinets, giving "under-counter lighting" an entirely new perspective. I'm just curious. You obviously have a great designer!

Day 13

Closets are getting their update.  Out with the old sliding mirror doors. We knew that the master closets needed some updating, but the solution wasn't straightforward. So our contractor suggested we make the entry smaller and add two normal doors to pull the closets into this century. The his and hers closets are across the hall from each other and huge doors would hit, if we wanted to be in our closets at the same time. Solution: Smaller doors and offset entrances. The funny thing the opening is actually bigger now, even though they are framing it for doors to fit.  Why does my closet already have more stuff in it? Former shower space, now has the framing for cabinets.  Master Shower plumbing, is coming along.  Squee! Master vanity! 2nd Bath has plumbing exposed and new hardware ready to be installed. Good thing our drywall is getting replaced, that looks a little water damaged! 2nd Bath has cabinets too!

Day 4 - A little of this and that.

I'm impressed that so many people care about our little reno... I guess that's why there's a whole channel devoted to this stuff.  Well, I am here to please, here's today's update! What happened to day 3? It was a Sunday, how dare you expect them to work on a Sunday (you're all monsters)! Here's my day 4 recap.  Much of the same.  Progress was made on the tile removal, it's slow going but at least it's progress. So not a ton of picture progress today, sorry! The demo is slow going right now, but a few fun things happened while I was at the house today! I met a nice neighbor at the mailbox.  She was asking me if I knew if the house on the corner was going on the market... as a matter of fact, I know that it has already sold ;) Speaking of the mail box, thankfully my teenager was able to get the mail key to work and then proceed to teach me how to do it. Of course, this was after he figured out how get out of the backyard using ...
