2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Sorry it's been awhile since the last update, thing have been moving, but slowly.

2nd Bathroom:
Counter tops, plumbing, and hardware!
New shower backer, all ready to be tiled... as soon as the tile comes in. It was supposed to be in last week (sad face).

The shower had drywall behind it before, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable with hardibacker wet area cement board.
So it feel like things are really moving along... and then you realize you have a toilet in your hall.
This spawned an amazing quote from my good friend, SM: Life Lesson #679 courtesy of Cannon Renovation:
"Sometimes we just have to appreciate the positive and hope our crap ends up where it should..."

Master Bath:

we've got some materials in: master shower flooring
Shower detailing
I love, love, love our silver travertine counter tops! We got to go pick out our slab and I'm so glad we were picky, it looks great with the cabinets.

Plumbing and hardware are in.

Yeah, so maybe our faucets are LED.

Master Vanity with hardware. Looking Good.

Master shower got a bench!
Things look good... then you realize there is bathtub in your bedroom.
 Master Closet Doors:
Bye bye sliding mirror doors, hello normal looking doors.

They did a great job finishing the doors.

Fun detail, this outlet was powering the whirlpool tub. Since they can't have a power outlet in the shower, what with the possibility of electrocution. They just flipped around and now we have an outlet in one of the closets.
This was an  access port to the attic, it needed a new door. The previous home owner finished this out for us and it has a cool magnetic closure.

  1. Thank you for the picture of the hardibacker wet area cement board. Now I know what the latest is!

  2. I re-read this post because there isn't a new one. LED lighting in the faucet. Ingenious. Are you installing LED lighting anywhere else in the house? I recently saw LED lights along a floor in a kitchen, under the cabinets, giving "under-counter lighting" an entirely new perspective. I'm just curious. You obviously have a great designer!

Day 13

Closets are getting their update.  Out with the old sliding mirror doors. We knew that the master closets needed some updating, but the solution wasn't straightforward. So our contractor suggested we make the entry smaller and add two normal doors to pull the closets into this century. The his and hers closets are across the hall from each other and huge doors would hit, if we wanted to be in our closets at the same time. Solution: Smaller doors and offset entrances. The funny thing the opening is actually bigger now, even though they are framing it for doors to fit.  Why does my closet already have more stuff in it? Former shower space, now has the framing for cabinets.  Master Shower plumbing, is coming along.  Squee! Master vanity! 2nd Bath has plumbing exposed and new hardware ready to be installed. Good thing our drywall is getting replaced, that looks a little water damaged! 2nd Bath has cabinets too!

Stairs and Flooring

Well, it's been a long time since I've posted anything because it seems like a long time since any real progress has been made on the house.  I think that in the wake of Hurricane Harvey all of the subcontractors took on extra work and our house was neglected :( But we are back on track and the stairs are done!  They still need to be stained, but it's exciting to see the the carpentry done because this was the impetus for the whole renovation project.  We knew we needed to redo the stairs and everything else just snowballed from there. 'Before'             The stairs look great!!! They have started on the flooring this week and have already made great progress.  There is a lot of floating required to level the floor, so that is slowing things down, but I love the way the laminate looks. Leveling the floor outside the master bathroom The living room floor was pretty torn up from removing the tile and they ...

Seeing the Finish Line

We are close... So close! There are still a few things left for the contractors to do, and even more things for us to take care of, but we are getting so close to moving. In fact we have even started moving! Stairs are done and looking awesome! Before   After Master Bath Before After Before After Pianos getting moved in! Yep, its getting real! On a side note... if you need piano movers, these guys are awesome.  I wouldn't trust moving the delicate 800 pound beast to just anyone.  Without internet, Ian discovered this little thing called 'the outdoors...' We have a decent climbing tree in the backyard. 3rd Floor got some carpet.  Mantle Prep.  Matt and Greg made the mantle, they did an amazing job! Before After Boys Bathroom Before After Before After Half Bath Makeover! Yikes, I can't believe it used to look like that! Before ...
