Day 13

Closets are getting their update.  Out with the old sliding mirror doors. We knew that the master closets needed some updating, but the solution wasn't straightforward. So our contractor suggested we make the entry smaller and add two normal doors to pull the closets into this century. The his and hers closets are across the hall from each other and huge doors would hit, if we wanted to be in our closets at the same time. Solution: Smaller doors and offset entrances. The funny thing the opening is actually bigger now, even though they are framing it for doors to fit.  Why does my closet already have more stuff in it? Former shower space, now has the framing for cabinets.  Master Shower plumbing, is coming along.  Squee! Master vanity! 2nd Bath has plumbing exposed and new hardware ready to be installed. Good thing our drywall is getting replaced, that looks a little water damaged! 2nd Bath has cabinets too!

Monday 7/17 Day 11 (I counted)

Fun progress! I was very excited to see the house this evening. The stairs are looking amazing. Obviously we don't have our new flooring or railing in yet but, we can finally see what the space is going to look like! One of the main reasons we decided we wanted to bring down that wall was to help  with the front entry, once you are in the door you are right there at the stairs. I was starting to stress about the cost, but I'm really happy with how it's looking and we are achieving what we wanted. Which is good, because the first bill came in the mail today...sad face. New stairs flush with the outer wall.  Second bathroom lost it's vanity, flooring and shower tiles!  Let's take a moment to appreciate these curtains.  I almost took them down today... cause the're obviously horrible, but I realized that they were actually doing a pretty decent job keeping the heat out of the room.  So I let them stay for a while, but I am being pa

Day...who knows maybe 9?

So after a few days of slow to no work, there was some good progress to report from yesterday and today.  After the new windows installed the trim was removed to insulate them from the inside.  They are being finished and are almost ready to be textured and painted. Old tile is getting removed from the 2nd bath. Master bath has a new framed wall for the new shower. This is exciting! The stairs are being extended. Since we had a half wall the stairs only went to the inside of the wall. You can see the difference in the picture. Now that the wall is coming down (think circa 80's Berlin) the stairs need to be flush with the outer part of the wall.  Tile is removed (not new) but the piles of tiles are out!

Day 6

Nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Nothing new since yesterday. Sad face. When I went to the house I did see a happy surprise. Greg (the previous owner was mowing my lawn). How amazing and sweet is that...

Day 5

The tile is like 99% up! The remainder is just the edges where the tile is actually being left in the house. I was excited to see it all gone, okay not gone, cause there are still tile piles all over the downstairs, but you know what I mean! Hall with the last little bits of tile still by the doors Here's a good picture of one of the reasons we are updating the stairs, to the right you can see the front door, to the left see the wall.  You walk into the front door right into a wall. Yeah, we're hoping the railing will open up that area.  This room had vinyl flooring, I know what you're thinking... Why would you remove such a classy floor.  Sorry folks, sacrifices sometimes need to be made.  Oh, and that wasn't the only vinyl flooring in the house... lucky us. The previous owner liked vinyl flooring about as much as they liked brass fixtures.

Day 4 - A little of this and that.

I'm impressed that so many people care about our little reno... I guess that's why there's a whole channel devoted to this stuff.  Well, I am here to please, here's today's update! What happened to day 3? It was a Sunday, how dare you expect them to work on a Sunday (you're all monsters)! Here's my day 4 recap.  Much of the same.  Progress was made on the tile removal, it's slow going but at least it's progress. So not a ton of picture progress today, sorry! The demo is slow going right now, but a few fun things happened while I was at the house today! I met a nice neighbor at the mailbox.  She was asking me if I knew if the house on the corner was going on the market... as a matter of fact, I know that it has already sold ;) Speaking of the mail box, thankfully my teenager was able to get the mail key to work and then proceed to teach me how to do it. Of course, this was after he figured out how get out of the backyard using

Day 2

It's pretty amazing what can happen in 2 days.  We showed up at the house at the end of the second day and found our stairs looking rather bare. Carpet is getting removed, the half wall is coming down to make way for the banister and balustrades. The Stairs need to be lengthened to overhang the wall and look right (they are too short due to the half wall). I can't wait to see what this is going to look like finished. This was the first project that we wanted to do and the most intensive. It's already opening up the entryway! We were so excited to see so much of the drywall on the stairs removed we almost didn't notice the bathroom sink and cabinets in the front room! Turns out our tile doesn't want to be removed! It's giving the guys a pretty hard time, sorry tile.    WOW, the bathroom didn't look like this yesterday.  All the stuff in the front room came from here.  I put a picture of what the vanity will look like in about a month.

Remodel Day 1

Destruction has begun! Carpet is off the stairs, and drywall partially removed The tile is putting up a fight! Mantle removed Will move gas line from behind new tile Stairs will be lengthened to overhang wall
